The fire brigade decides when a house is safe to enter. Until they say so, stay out. After that, the damage is usually three things at once: char where it burned, soot and smell through rooms that never had a flame, and water from putting the fire out.

What to tell us when you call

Call 0435 118 851. We need the suburb and state, whether anyone is still out of the house, and whether the damage is smoke, charring, water, or all three. The office answers Monday to Friday, 9am to 6pm. If you reach us outside those hours, leave the suburb and a number that is answered.

We restore houses across Australia. Attendance depends on the address. We do not promise a van in a fixed number of minutes.

What usually happens next

Someone walks the house and separates what got wet, what is only smoked, and what is burned through. Contents that can be cleaned are listed separately from contents that cannot. Wet carpet and furnishings are dealt with before the smell is treated, because odour treatment on a dirty wet room does not hold.

Questions

Can I clean one room myself and leave the rest?

A wiped wall looks better for an hour and then the soot is in the paint. Leave it until it has been looked at.

The fire was only in the kitchen. Why does the whole house smell?

Smoke moves through the ceiling and the hallway. The kitchen may be the burned room. The bedrooms are often a smoke job, not a rebuild.

Do you work outside capital cities?

Yes. Say the suburb. If we do not have a page for that town, the phone call is still the right step.
